Jess Cross is a contemporary realist painter and printmaker. Since receiving her Master's Degree, she has been exhibiting her work and currently, she had been the head of Printmaking at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.
During the residency, she aimed to stay present and respond sincerely to what the area is telling her. Her goal was to develop a sense of place through interdisciplinary practice, drawing, painting, printing, and documenting elements of the environment. So, she experimented with natural pigments, and patterns; made paper from local plants, and started to journal her experience in the artist' books she put together. The final works can be seen as fragmented collages of information coming together to form landscapes and skyscapes.
She also created a sculptural piece in collaboration with artist Steven Durow.
